On Thursday 1, Friday 2, and Saturday 3 December 2022, the University of Bergamo, will host the annual conference of the Italian Association for the study of Central Asia and the Caucasus (Asiac).
The aim of this edition of the annual conference is to foster the scientific dialogue between scholars working on these areas, from Italy as well as from abroad. The topics of the conference include, but are not limited to, such disciplines as history, linguistics, philology, literature, politics, sociology, archeology, and geography.
This year, the conference will host a special section dedicated to the topic of “The City”, in which contributors are encouraged to explore urban centers through the lens of history, linguistics, sociology, politics, literature, art, or urban studies. The section’s aim is to consolidate contributions around a monographic topic and to spark an academic debate that could then lead to a thematic publication in Eurasiatica, the peer-reviewed academic series edited by Edizioni Ca’ Foscari at the University of Venice. Scholars from different disciplines and approaches whose research focuses on cities and urban centres in the Caucasus and Central Asia are encouraged to submit their proposal.
We strongly encourage participants to submit thematic sessions including participants from different universities or research institutions; the conference sessions will generally combine three or four accepted proposals, one moderator, and, in certain cases, a discussant.
All proposals should include a title and an abstract (around 500 words), affiliation, and contact information for each of the speakers and should be sent by 10 July 2022 to the following email address: [email protected].
Due to the global pandemic and its repercussions on travel, we will offer a hybrid format this year: Those able and willing to travel to Bergamo will convene at the university – unless otherwise specified by university or government regulations – while the rest of the participants will be able to join remotely via e-conferencing tools.
A selection of papers will be considered for submission to Eurasiatica, the peer-reviewed academic series edited by Edizioni Ca’ Foscari at the University of Venice.
The working language of the conference will be English.
The notification of acceptance will be communicated by 25 July 2022.
Attendance is free, but all speakers have to register and pay the conference fee (50 euro for professors and academics, 25 euro for students or independent researchers); follow this link for payment details.
